Step Outside Your Comfort with Confidence

Updated: Jul 11, 2023

Commitiment & Courage

I read a great book in my 20s – "Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway" by Susan Jeffers. There was one quote in that book that has stuck with me to this day - "We cannot escape fear. We can only transform it into a companion that accompanies us on all our exciting adventures".

When we give in to our fears, we are handing over the driver's seat of our lives. You might say that is harsh, Yes it is. But is it true? Look back at some of the things you wished you had more confidence to do but did not do them, You have sat in the passenger seat and let fear drive. How do you take back the driver's seat??? The simple answer is commitment and courage.

Looking back on any of the significant risks you have taken in your life, you might not realise it, but there is a pattern that you have been repeating. This pattern is commitment and courage. Think about it – you first had to commit to what you wanted to do, Maybe it was further educating yourself or starting your own business, once committed, then you needed the courage to take the first step.

Commit & Believe in Yourself

You can have anything you want in life if you are willing to give up the belief that you can't have it.

Sometimes we can avoid going after things we want because we are afraid to believe we can have them. Pick a goal, a goal you truly want to achieve. Commit to this goal. Believe you can achieve it, and get to work achieving it.

You have to believe in yourself and your ability to see this through. You need to see and feel the result you have visualised for yourself. You will grow your business, get that contract or buy that house. Whatever it is, you need to commit and believe you can have it.

You need to be 100% committed. There is a big difference between committed and conveniently committed. If you want to get that dream client, you know you need to pick up the phone and call them, not just hope they might contact you! Commit and take the action requireid.

Once you have committed, you can start creating the results, and that is where courage comes in!

Be Courageous

Often when we commit to something, all of our fears and uncertainty have a nice way of showing up. You start to doubt your ability. This is where you need your courage to kick in. You might feel you have bitten off way more than you can chew to achieve this goal. Yes, there will be discomfort, but the courageous people feel the fear and do it anyway. All of us feel fear, but how we choose to respond to the fear makes the difference.

New Thinking & New Capabilities

Now you have courageously taken the next step, and you will be motivated to achieve your goals. This will create a new way of thinking which will automatically come in. You will be laser-focused on achieving this goal.

Marshall Goldsmith has a great quote "People who believe they can succeed see opportunities where others see threats."

Start looking for the hidden opportunities that will help you get your result You might need to make new habits or learn new skills all of which will add to future growth.

When you start seeing the opportunities and get closer to achieving your goal, you will feel "I can do this."

By committing, taking courage, and growing your capabilities all create your newfound confidence giving you the confidence to step outside your comfort zone more and more.

I also have a Podcast to support this process so head over to my podcast section and list to this episode now.
